4 best house plants

BEST HOUSE PLANTS

With winter approaching, everyone is in need of a little green to keep all year. House plants are my favorite way to add a little pop to any room. If you are wanting to try out your green thumb a little bit, and save some money by going away from faux plants, then this is your answer! The hardest thing about putting a plant in a room? Keeping them alive! Here is a guide to my favorite house plants that are sure to stay alive, no matter how many cactuses you have killed before.

BEST HOUSE PLANTS

1. Pothos (Devils Ivy): This beautiful plant grows like crazy without hardly any care. It requires minimal sunlight, and needs to be watered every 7-10 days. This plant is great for the corner of rooms or any place that doesn’t get a lot of natural sunlight. It is a perfect accent to any room, because of the way it drapes down, and add so much texture.

2. Sansevieria (Snake Plant): these hardy plants are as low key as it gets. They need to be watered every 2-6 weeks, depending on the humidity of the environment you are in and the amount sunlight it getting. The Snake plant has three variations, so I can guarantee that you will find one you love. This makes it the perfect plant for anybody.

3. Zanzibar Gem (Zz plant): the Zz plant is one of my personal favorites. Whether you are an over waterer of plants, or you neglect them, you can not kill this plant. It doesn’t mind being over watered, or under watered. It needs very little sunlight, as well. This plant grows and grows despite being  very relax on what type of care it gets.

4. Monstera (Swiss Cheese): If you are looking to brighten your home during these dreary winter months, then look no further, this is the perfect plant for you. When this plant grows out of its juvenile stage, each new leave has holes, or slits in it, giving it a fabulous tropical look. The beautiful tropicals leaves of the Swiss Cheese plant is the cheapest way to give yourself a little beach get away every single day. Swiss cheese plants are little bit more maintenance than the other plants but not by much. It enjoys getting lots of light, and being watered once a week. If you can find a sunny window in your house to put it by it is sure to be a happy plant.

I hope you love these plants as much as I do, and they bring you joy during these winter months!

  1. Tape Measure

    Tape Measure

It’s difficult to verbally formulate the importance of a tape measure, but it is 100% the most valuable and commonly used item in the bag. This tape from Stanley is as basic as the day is long. Rarely hanging in design over the years and never breaking, this is the most hassle free and durable tape measure I have used. Inexpensive with no frills, it’s easily forgettable and the most important item on the list.

2. Drills (Drill and Impact Driver)

Milwaukee

Dewalt

Constantly being used, a set of drills is something where frugality can quickly become a nuisance. The Drill/Impact Driver combination saves some money by bundling, and not having to change from a drill bit to a philips head by having two drills saves loads of time. Both Milwaukee and Dewalt brands have long lasting batteries and consistent performance, making the investment well worth it.

3. Bit set (Drill bit and driver bits)

Drill Bit

Driver Bit

Drills and Drivers are cool, but without the bits they are useless. I own both these little sets, and most every bit I need on a typical day can be found in this combination.

4. Levels

Torpedo level

4ft. Level

As mentioned later in this post, accuracy and precision is the goal in completing any project. None of which could be completed effectively without levels in hand. A torpedo level is lightweight and fits in your pocket all day. A 4ft. Level is used almost as much, and therefore just as important to have.

5. Skill Saw

Skill Saw

Be it a quick cut of a 2x4 or a cutting down a piece of plywood, the skill saw is a job site must.

6. Mechanical Pencils

Mechanical Pencils

Many peopleI have run into throughout the years swear by a carpenters pencil; they don’t break, last forever, and look the part. They are wrong and this is why. With a mechanical pencil, lead thickness is always within the 7mm thickness. Consistency and accuracy is the name of the game, and these cheap mechanical pencils from BIC are more than sufficient in achieving this.

7.  Speed Square

Speed Square

Room drawing cut lines to squaring up corners, a speed square is something that cannot be lived without. I prefer the metal option, but for those wanting to shed a few ounces of weight, plastic versions are available that work just as well.

8. Chop Saw/Miter Saw

Chop Saw/Miter Saw

Whether it is cutting trim pieces or putting up shelving, the miter saw makes accurate cuts every time. When many cuts are made throughout the day, I prefer to use a chop saw over a skill saw to ensure all cuts are the same.

9. Drywall Screws

Drywall Screws

Paintings, photos, and shelves don’t always look best when lined up with the standard 16” centered studs in a house. When this happens, the E-Z Anchor screws are without a doubt the most secure and easily used option when hanging things from sheetrock. These screws go in perfectly flush with the wall, and when it comes time to remove them and patch the area, they come out as effortlessly as they went in.

10. Palm Sander

Pal Sander

There is always a need for a palm sander during DYI projects. Going over any custom piece before painting or staining is an absolute necessity for clean looking projects. This Milwaukee has a common shaped face, making it easy to find a plethora of perfectly fitting grit types.

11. Hammer

Hammer

With the vast majority of DIY projects it seems screws are the best option to use. But when the time comes when a hammer is needed, the titanium head on this Stiletto makes all day use much easier. More force can be generated whilst using less energy.

12. (Splurge Item) - Table Saw

Table Saw

One of those things you can get by without, so long as you have a skill and a chop saw. The table saw however is sorely missed when making longer cuts where precision is a must in order to have a tight and complete looking final project. This saw in particular comes with a quick and easily foldable rolling stand, which comes in very handy.

Good Luck DIYing everyone!

21 Thing We Bring to Every Organization + Design Job

Hello to all my professional organizers, interior designers, and Organizing + Design DIYers!

I have had a lot of requests for the logistics of my business lately and I wanted to share with you, what we always have with us! I hope you find this helpful!

xx, Simply Sam

Professional Organzing Tools

The Uniform:

I pretty much wear the same thing every day. Leggings, comfy shirt, tennis shoes, and my hair on top of my head with a cute scrunchie just to add a little more flare.

1-High Quality Gym Shoes 2-Cute Scrunchie 3-Lightweight Tshirt 4-Leggings with Pockets

PRO TIP: Have 2-3 pairs of tennis shoes you alternate between. I find when I wear the same pair over and over my feet tend to hurt more.

Cleaning Supplies:

It’s support important to have basic cleaning supplies on hand for any job. Along with these basic items I would suggest getting speciality cleaners for glass, wood, stainless steal, etc. You never know what the client will have on hand and you don’t want to leave your beautifully organized and designed space with grease, grime, or fingerprints.

6- Non-Toxic All Purpose Cleaner 7-Vinyl Gloves 8-Paper Towels

9- Lysol Wipes 16-Heavy Duty Trash Bags

General Tools:

Its important that you come prepared for everything. You never know what you’re going to have to cut, measure, screw tight, etc. This ladder is amazing, and its super nice because it goes high enough to get to most places, but also isn’t heavy and bulk.

10-Two Pairs of Scissors (more) 12-Digital Tape Measure

13-Simple Tool Set 14-Light Weight Ladder

Organizing Tools:

LABEL EVERYTHING. I use post it notes for the “pre-label” and whenever I can I use chalkboard clip labels, they pretty much elevate any space, and instantly make it feel organized, and anything like a bin or food storage, I use the sticker version. I also always have a plethora of every kind of command strip because you never know when they will come in handy.

11-Picture Hanging Command Strips 15-Post-It Notes 17-Permanent Chalk Markers 18- Erasable Chalk Markers 18- Chalkboard Labels (stickers) 21-Chalkboard Labels (clips)

To and From:

These two things get me through life. Tumi is a high-end travel brand, but I’ve found that its extremely worth it be able to fit all my stuff, find where it is, and also be able to fit my laptop in with all my tools safely. As for the carrying case. I put all kinda of labels, pens, markers, post its, paper clips, push pins, command strips, chalkboard sticker labels, and the list goes on.

5- High Quality Work Bag 20-Carrying Case
